The Proposition
Every meaningful life is shaped by propositions.
In this painting, a young man sits quietly in a Paris café while two older figures seem to occupy the space around him. Are they companions, mentors, strangers—or symbolic voices within his own mind? One may represent wisdom earned through experience. The other, the seductive appeal of an easier path.
Rather than identify either figure, I chose to leave the question unresolved. Throughout life we are continually presented with propositions—some noble, some tempting, all requiring discernment. The café becomes more than a setting; it becomes a place where conscience and desire meet before a decision is made.
Painted in a restrained palette and expressive brushwork, The Tempting Proposition invites each viewer to reflect on the quiet moments when the direction of a life can change with a single choice.
